Did you know that the hardest part of getting braces can be enduring the first week? What we mean by this is that your body is getting used to these strange, new pieces of metal in your mouth, and you likely feel a bit sore at first. Once you finish the first week with our Littleton Orthodontist, you will feel that beautiful smile coming through!
Here are some helpful tips to survive your braces for the first time:
- Check your wire ends
- Understand all the next steps to perfect your braces
- Double check your supplies
Use Wax To Fight Sores In Your Mouth
Brackets are designed to be gentle in your mouth, however, they can cause some irritation on the soft skin. As time goes by, the soft skin will tighten up more and when it starts to tighten up you then won’t continue to get those sore spots in your mouth. If you see that you’re still getting sore spots please contact our Littleton Orthodontist.
Rinse Your Mouth With Salt Water
If you’re experiencing a ton of irritation in your mouth, our Littleton Orthodontist suggests rinsing your mouth with a solution of warm salt water and keep in in your mouth for about 30 seconds and 5 to 6 times per day until all the irritation goes away. The salt water will help relieve pain and allow sore areas to heal faster.
Be Careful With What You Eat When You Get Braces
It is okay to eat as soon as you leave the Littleton Orthodontist, but our office suggests only eating soft foods the first few days into your braces. The foods to definitely stick with that we recommend would be pasta, soft bread, soft veggies, pudding, yogurt, soup, and other soft foods. These options will not damage your braces and would be ideal for your braces as you continue your journey to beautifully straight teeth!
